Lesson 6: Journey to the Real Mt. Sinai "Water and Bread"
Among those who believe Jebel Maqla is the Real Mt. Sinai there is still a debate about the route taken to arrive there from Nuweiba beach head to the east side of the mountain. Why? Because there is not a straight route. The area is covered with desert wilderness.. . mountains, wadis, and canyons. There is very little vegetation and very little water!
After the Israelites finished dancing and singing, celebrating their redemption from Egypt and safe arrival into “God’s holy habitation” the bible says in Exodus 15: 22 that they headed into the Wilderness of Shur for three days, yet they found no water. When they arrived at Marah, they could not drink the water, because it was bitter. You guessed it. The word Marah in Hebrew means bitter. Imagine the disappointment of the people when after thirsting for three days, the water they found was poisonous!! Why did God bring them there? Was he testing them?
In this lesson, we will visit a possible site for Marah, and Elim, named Wadi Tayyib Al Ism . I know you will enjoy the adventure! Also, I teach about the Manna, hence the title, Water and Bread. For Lesson Plans and Study notes for this lesson, Click HERE!
Scriptures: Exodus 15, 16, Deut 8:3, John 6
Discussion Questions:
1.What was your favorite part of the lesson?
2. What was God teaching the people at Marah? At Elim?
3. What was God teaching the people through giving them the manna?
4. After the Red Sea miracle, and all the other miracles, why do you think the people were still lacking faith in Yahweh?
5. Was Moses a good leader? Why or why not?
6. What does the scripture mean, Deut. 8:3 says, And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.
