Lesson 6 Elijah: Prepare the Way of the Lord "Ahab: Where Did all the Men Go?"

Growing up, I had an idea of what a manly man should be like! He could ride a horse and aim a gun while chasing a bank robber. He was confident and smooth, and willing to put himself in danger for a damsel in distress. Like my daddy, he could wrap me in his arms one minute kissing away my tears, and the next demand my respect with a glance or a single word. He protected our family, took care of us, and provided for us. He always did the right thing, even when it was hard. Where did all the men go in America? What in the world happened to the men? Why aren't they so "manly" anymore? Could this have anything to do with the rise of Jezebel's influence in our culture?

Elijah had just spoken with God at Mt. Sinai, beginning to hear his voice again. His next assignment? Mentor Elisha! Elijah then began to live in community with other believers at the schools of the prophets. While all of this was going on in the south, up north, King Ahab was under attack. Ben Hadad, the king of Syria to the north had gathered together 32 of his regional “kings” and all their forces, and had now besieged  the capital city of Israel, Samaria! What will King Ahab do? Will God bless Israel or abandon them in battle?

Scriptures: 1 Kings 20, 2 Chronicles 7:14

Discussion Questions:

  1. “What are the character traits of King Ahab?” Have you ever met an Ahab? What characteristics of Ahab did they exhibit? Was there a Jezebel nearby?

  2. Why do you think men are not so “manly” anymore? Are these changes biblical? Why or why not?

  3.  Is your church led by Jezebel, Ahab, or Elijah? Why do you think so?

  4. How was Elijah’s new assignment different from the last ones he received? What was his attitude like about this new assignment? Has God ever taken you from one form of ministry and moved you to another? Tell what happened.

  5. Why did God strengthen the military might of Israel under wicked King Ahab and Jezebel? Was he trying to punish the country of Syria, while  using  Israel as a useful agent? Was he still trying to show King Ahab that HE was God? Was there still hope that King Ahab could repent?

  6. Why was God upset that King Ahab decided not to kill Ben Hadad, and instead extended him mercy?  Isn’t mercy good? Shouldn’t we always side with mercy?  How could God find disfavor in a merciful act? What was the consequence of Ahab’s disobedience?

  7. Does your church tolerate unbiblical ideas or behaviors? Is your church compromising the teachings in the word of God? Why is it growing more and more important not to compromise as the world gets darker and darker?

  8. If you were Elijah, what would you take time to teach Elisha?

  9. The men, and the churches which were once dominated by male leadership, are becoming more passive, like Ahab. How can you tell?

Closure and Final Prayer: The key takeaway of this lesson is this:  Believers must not extend toleration of sin, even in the name of mercy, to the forces of Satan. Pray this prayer together:   Lord, help me be discerning and compassionate, yet firm, as I assertively challenge the enemies of Your cross. Help me never again to live with a tolerant attitude toward those activities that come out of the influence of Jezebel or Ahab spirits. Amen!

From Tucker Carlson::

Much ink has been spilled trying to identify and explain the causes of America’s well-established masculinity crisis.

Why are men dropping out of society and killing themselves? Why are testosterone levels plummeting? Were we wrong to give fidgety third-grade boys amphetamines instead of telling them to play outside?

Who knows. There is seldom a follow-up or discussion about these topics. Instead, we ignore the obvious causes — anti-male culture, toxic diet, the hyper-feminization of the education system — and delude ourselves by trying to reimagine what it means to be male in the 21st century.

This very feat was just recently on display during a sitdown interview between MSNBC’s Jen Psaki and Kamala Harris’s husband, Doug Emhoff.

Psaki lavished Emhoff with praise, saying, “Part of how people have talked about your role [in politics] is how [you have] reshaped the perception of masculinity,” as the second gentleman pudgily sat across from her.

The simple fact of the matter is that if Doug Emhoff is the future of American masculinity, we are all screwed.

Not only is he himself the living embodiment of the “toxic masculinity” endlessly decried by leftwingers and their shrill feminist foot soldiers — he may or may not have knocked up the nanny and pressured her into getting an abortion, after all — but he is a weak and cowardly man.

He brands himself as a happy-go-lucky family guy and supportive spouse but sits back while his wife’s political ambitions threaten the American family.

Kamala wants to expand and protect abortion access, continue allowing schools to push trans ideology and divisive racial grievances on kids, and continue flooding the nation with dangerous, unvetted migrant populations.

American men need good, solid role models if they are to thrive. Few, if any, exist nowadays.

Doug Emhoff is one of the last people men should look to for guidance.
