Lesson 1- Joshua: Lessons From the Promised Land "Introduction" (15:47)

In this study of the book of Joshua, we learn to follow our Jesus, as the Israelites followed Joshua, into the Promised Land of our faith. Throughout the lessons, I will relate the battles of taking territory in the land of Canaan with battles my family fought in our Christian life. Jesus will teach us how to move into HIS spiritual "Promised Land" and take the inheritance we have been promised, if we learn to go with God and partner with Him. All the lessons we learn in this study will apply to our spiritual lives today! This is a challenging eight-part study, and an exciting journey. Let's go!

For this study, I suggest you read the scriptures listed for each lesson, either before or after listening to the video. Also, there are questions to ponder after every session, and occasionally extra links for related learning. For session handouts, including fill in the blank video note taking, click Here!!

Scriptures taught in this lesson:

Joshua 1: 1-9 Exodus 14:14, 19:5-8 ,

Deuteronomy 31: 14-15, Ephesians 3:18-19, and 6:9-12,

Habakkuk 2:3-4 ,Genesis 15:18-21, 17:8

Questions:

1. What new thing did you learn from listening to this lesson?

2. What things do you do routinely for God that he might be urging you to do in a new way? How has your church changed since 2020? How have you changed?

3. Does knowing the name Yeshua, in the Hebrew, is the same name for both Jesus and Joshua change how you see the symbolism of Joshua's story? How?

4. Do you feel like you are walking in the "fullness" of all that Christ has for you? Why or why not?

5. The "Promised Land" is not an analogy of living in heaven, but rather living in the full promises of our salvation here on the earth. How might this change your view of the entire idea of moving into and conquering the Promised Land?

Enjoy this video on what the Promised Land looks like from the top of Mt. Nebo, the place from which Moses would have viewed the Promised Land in modern day Jordan, and also the area next to the Jordan River where they would have camped. (7 min.)
