Session Five: Wallbuilders "The Watchman"

In the fifth lesson of the series, we see how God directs Nehemiah to thwart a military threat against the building project by having half of the workers be watchmen and the other half work with swords at their sides. This is an exciting victory for the people of God. Click here for handouts.

Questions:

1. What part of this lesson stood out to you the most?

2. What other characteristics of a wallbuilder can be seen in Nehemiah as we observe his leadership in this lesson? Example: Wallbuilders are proactive against enemy attacks. 3. What is it about Nehemiah that makes him such a popular leader?

4. How can we gain comfort from the fact that God not only revealed the enemy plot to Nehemiah, but also a strategy to thwart the plot? What does this say to us as believers now? Has this ever happened in your life?

Activities:

1. Look in a concordance or on an online website such as Bible Gateway for verses in the scriptures that contain the word "watchman." What more can you learn about what a biblical watchman is? How do these verses enhance your understanding? Do you think we have biblical watchmen today? Why or why not?

2. Find a "watchman" for yourself, or volunteer to be one for someone else.
